In October 1950, the government implemented local self-governance and reorganized administrative districts. The Chiayi Land Administration Office was established to serve the eight townships of Xingang, Taibao, Shuishang, Zhuqi, Fanlu, Zhongpu, Dapu, Wufeng, and Chiayi City. The office was tasked with carrying out land reforms, managing land registration, adjusting land categories, setting official land values, releasing and leasing public land, and conducting land surveys under the directives of higher authorities.
As of July 1, 1982, Chiayi was elevated to a provincial city, with its jurisdiction covering Chiayi City, and the office was renamed the "Chiayi City Land Office."
